The Chichester Centre, Graylingwell Drive, Chichester
Reconfiguration of 60 Bed Mental Health Centre
This £1.8m contract was carried out over a twelve month period and involved working in four separate wards in the hospital, over a phased programme. During the entire project three wards were kept live and sectional completion and handed back on time. This was essential for the smooth running of the hospital.
Works carried out involved some major structural alterations, re-modelling of patient accommodation and staff offices, formation of seclusion rooms, medical treatment rooms, provision of new kitchens, bathrooms and toilets.
A workforce of some thirty operatives working up to seven days a week, ensured that each ward was completed on time and to a high standard so that patients could return without delay or inconvenience.
In addition, a new reception with replacement air lock doors was installed during the period of the contract and works to first floor office accommodation.
Working in a live medium secure environment was challenging. When required, there were times when patients and contractors were in contact, however under close supervision.
Specifically, the trades included demolitions, structural works, drainage, plasterworks, screed, suspended ceilings, partitioning, mechanical, electrical, replacement doorsets, new wardrobes and cupboards, specialist kitchen fitments, glazed screens, doors, Whiterock to walls, vinyl and carpet to floors and decorations.
Over two miles of anti-pick mastic was used in sealing every junction in the building.
