SOMERSET FARM

Updated: Oct 16

Vale Southern Construction enhanced a family home with an oak frame extension that blends seamlessly with the existing architecture.

Building on a longstanding relationship, Vale Southern partnered with architects Mitchell Evans to help a private homeowner extend their home and deliver a variety of internal improvements.

The project saw Vale Southern deliver a two-storey oak frame extension at the rear of the property. Working with a specialist supplier, the oak frame was designed to complement the property’s exterior and has provided an extended dining area and master bedroom.

The roof on the top half of the extension was created using reclaimed peg tiles which were vertically hung to add character to the building.

Internally, the team carried out minor demolition works to make the upstairs bathroom larger, creating space for a new shower room. In the kitchen, existing walls were removed to reconfigure the space and new cabinetry fitted. Vale Southern also installed reclaimed quarry tiles on the ground floor extension to complement the space and meet the architect’s design brief.

The improvements were finalised with external works, providing the homeowners with new patio areas and garden walls.

The project was delivered successfully within 18 weeks meeting all the client’s expectations.

The homeowner said: “It was a delight to have Tom and Neil from Vale Southern lead the construction works at Somerset Farm from June to December 2023. They collaborated with their in-house team on-site and at head office as well as the architect - and managed sub-contractors / construction suppliers to deliver excellence throughout Somerset Farm, where parts of the building date from the 17th century.

“A refreshing approach as they balanced the needs of the family with sensitively constructed technical work in an historic building.”
