State-of-the-art independent living development of 30 retirement apartments

Project case study
Vale Southern was appointed to construct the development, which comprises 30 new apartments across two and three-storey blocks, each tailored to support independent living.
Finding the right contractor was hugely important to Thorngate Churcher Trust. Chief Executive Anne Taylor commented that: “it was vital we appoint a company which understands the intricacies of creating our homes and can work with us on tight timescales and budgets while causing as little disruption as possible to nearby residents.”
The project included the construction of modern, energy-efficient homes as well as the creation of shared amenities, such as a residents’ lounge, landscaped communal gardens and on-site parking.
Modern methods of construction were integral to the project’s success. Vale Southern used a pre-assembled lightweight steel frame system to accelerate the build, increase on-site efficiency, and minimise disruption to the surrounding community.
Given the building’s location in a residential area, the project team engaged closely with neighbouring residents throughout the works, sharing regular progress updates and responding to community feedback to maintain strong relations.
